Application Portal shortcut is opening in Edge instead of Internet Explorer

As of February 14th, 2023 Internet Explorer is no longer available on Windows 10 computers. Please refer to the following Microsoft article Internet Explorer 11 desktop app retirement FAQ - Microsoft Community Hub. Issue

When launching the Application Portal from the desktop icon, Internet Explorer opens and then switches to Microsoft Edge.

Cause

There was an update to Microsoft Edge, that now includes a setting to open Microsoft Edge even when it is meant for Internet Explorer.
You would have seen this prompt on your computer.


If you clicked on "Switch to Microsoft Edge" follow the below Solution to revert the change.
If you clicked on "Not now" and are experiencing the above issue, follow the below solution to verify that the setting have not changed

Solution

1. Open Microsoft Edge 

2. Click on the 3 dots in the top right of Edge, and then click on "Settings".

3. On the left of side of the settings window, click on "Default Browser", the settings to change will then appear in the center.

4. Beside the setting "Let Internet Explorer open sites in Microsoft Edge", click on the down arrow and then select  "Never".


5. Close Microsoft Edge and the try launching the Application Portal from the desktop shortcut, it should now open in Internet Explorer like normal.
